My name is Derek Hendsbee, longtime resident of Guysborough County, with my hat hung on the north shore of Donahue Lake since 1998.
My blog will take off where the book Get Out in Guysborough County left off (http://www.gcrda.ns.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=94&Itemid=352). It is my intent to have the blog become a useful resource for anyone wanting to see the county in more interesting ways than out of a car window.
I like the outdoors and have been an active person all my life. I am not any kind of guru or expert. I take life to be an ongoing opportunity to learn new things and that is the spirit in which I undertake this blog. I hope you will leave comments and ask questions.
The project is coordinated by the Guysborough County Regional Development Authority (http://www.gcrda.ns.ca)
Hello Derek, I was just searching for some links on worldpress, I have a blog on there, but it needs a lot of work before I go live. Next Month….I came across your blog. Guysborough looks quite amazing. This is an area of Canada I have not visited before. I have lived and travelled in Northern Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and BC. I spent a little time with the native hunters at Lake Mistassini, James Bay area. Then went up to Prince Albert National Park. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Mistassini

One day, I will get it together to go back and see what it is like. Right now I am working on a conservation programme. More out on my blog next month, hence the name rootssustainlife. Take care Stewart
Hi Stewart – all of the Atlantic Provinces are worth visiting especially if you haven’t spent much time near or around the ocean. Stick this area on your Bucket List.
You have captured some beautiful images; I can feel the moment almost as if I was there too. You can see the love behind all your images
Littleskew – thank you.
Yeaah Guysborough County… I grew up in Nova Scotia (in fact I know a Hendsbee from Canso) and am happy to see any part of it represented here. .
Beautiful photographs.
ruby pages – thanks, your cheer is much appreciated…
My mother was raised in Giant’s Lake, Guysborough county back in the 1940′s and when my parents would take us to visit on our trips to Nova Scotia in the 60′s -70′s we would always go visit our grandparents there.
Now as a grownup I have been back to Nova Scotia several times and the province is so beautiful, so much to see and enjoy.
