On Sunday afternoon eldest daughter Hilary dropped in for a visit…
“Where can I go for a sunset?” she asked.
“Green Barren is nice,” I said, “There’s a little orange marker where you turn left off the main trail.” She missed this turn on a previous visit.
“I don’t have boots.”
After trying to persuade her to use a pair of Carol’s without success I was then enlisted to go somewhere with her. After thinking for a minute I said we could try a spot nearby. I gathered my stuff though I wasn’t especially motivated to go to a place I’ve already photographed to sufficiently satisfy me in this lifetime.
We drove a short distance (3 kms) to Tom’s Lake which is halfway up/down the long hill that so often punctuates my cycling.
The sun had almost reached the horizon as we climbed out of the car. We each scanned our range of options, extended the legs on our tripods and went to work.
Half an hour later we were back in the car returning to the house. It was fun. I have a few photos I wouldn’t have otherwise, and Hilary was able to do a nice job with hers as well. You can check her blog post here: Hilary Hendsbee.

these are stunning!
Thank you Elena.
I compared the two different sunset panorama shots we got. I concluded I like your composition more, but I like my colours. Your overflow shot is much different than I expected it to turn out – Love them, as always!
Hi Hilary – I was pleased with those two shots. Even though I’ve been there repeatedly it’s the first time I thought of trying the running water in the foreground.
These are BEAUTIFUL! I think my favorite one was the one showing the flowing water, I’ve only captured a couple of those that I’m really proud of.
I hope by watching your photos that I can learn how to take pictures with this much depth.
Just keep loving what you’re doing, and it’ll give you a reason to go for these great shots every day.
I only started a photoblog a couple of months ago, just approaching 3000 views
Happy Blogging!
Hi Aaron,
Thanks. I hope you’ll continue to come back.
Your photos capture the magic of our special place in Nova Scotia.
